In season two, Amy was in a relationship with Ben, who wanted to be a family man, but eventually became more interested in his dream of being a fireman. Amy was relieved that John was born safe and healthy, and she also felt a need to do something good with her life, so she decides to become a doctor. She moves to Manhattan to attend a prestigious university, simultaneously going to a school in Boston to finish her general education requirements. Amy also struggles with the concept that she will be in New York for the next three years without Ricky, who will be starting college in the fall.
