Similar to the Heavenly Wars release, the game was given an exclusive cinematic trailer which was displayed during the "Naruto Shippuden" the day before the release. However, due to technical problems which occurred at the "Shippuden" event, the clip was not shown to Naruto Shippuden fans during the event. It was then re-shown on the Western version of the website on the day of the release. The same day, a new trailer was released to coincide with the Western version.[11][12]
As with the port of the original Heavenly Wars, the version of the game for PC will be released under the name "Heroes of Newerth". The distinction between the two games is that Newerth is merged with Quake 3 (from which Heroes of Newerth evolved) while the Heavenly Wars port was merged with Team Fortress 2. The DUEL SQUAD patch will be used to make the Newerth game compatible with the LAN-option and will be of a higher quality than the servers.[13]
A demo of Heroes of Newerth was released a few days ahead of the full game's release. The demo featured a single-player campaign as well as a tutorial level designed to be used for multiplayer. Aside from differences in the game's art, such as character and enemy models, the demo was a direct port of the game's original PS3 version. The demo runs in the same resolution as the game's original version. There is no cross-play between the PC and PS3 versions of the game, meaning it's not possible to play the PC demo against a PS3 demo of the same map.[14]
At the GDC 2009, a demo of the PC port of Heroes of Newerth was shown. Unlike the demo of the PS3 version, the demo was not a direct port of the game, rather a tech demo of the game's engine.
