Dee the detective is played by rising Mark Chao (from 2005's Hero) and Bruce Lee (the original movie) is Andy Lau (from 2005's The Departed).
Dee solves the case and is sent to the capital city of China for a special exam, where he will either be promoted or kicked out of the police force. With the help of his new partner, Wong, Dee makes the most of his skills and ends up making a great social impact on the community.
When Dee is sent to the capital city of China, he does his best to solve the case. But since he is a temporary officer in a powerful gang, he has to work around the clock to make sure he doesn't get killed or sent to jail.
Dee is assigned to solve a murder case for the Eastern Jin Emperor. He partners with young police officer Wang, Xiaozi, to investigate the case. They find that the murder was committed by an unknown assassin, and that the victim, a man named Boqiu, was killed in a single blow. To solve the case, they trace the assassin through a maze of clues.
Told with Wong Kar-wai's trademark dash of eccentricity, the movie features an array of Eastern and Western actors, some of them Chinese, playing characters of many nationalities. The actors include David Strathairn, a.k.a. Ray Midge, a CIA operative, and James Caan, a.k.a. Casper, a rogue FBI agent. But this movie is not merely about these characters. It is about being a human being in a complex society.
Dee is a feudalist, and he searches for clues in the village. When he is away from his job, he changes into Bruce Lee and uses his martial arts skills to settle village disputes.
The movie is most of its time in a small village. The villagers often have multiple family surnames, and a person's name is also important. In a society where the fate of the nation often depends on the continuity of the family name, it is hard to let go of the name you were born with. The names tend to be a combination of the surname of your parents and clan name.
This reboot also stars Chen Kun (from the Tao Mei TV series) as a younger Dee. Lan Yu, a Hong Kong director who has worked for Miramax, Sony, HBO, Fox, Walter Murch, and Maggie Chang, plays the character played by the late Charlize Theron in the previous film. Lin Yu-fen, a Hong Kong director, plays Cinderella in the movie. 827ec27edc
